Born and raised in Ocean County, NJ, Stephanie is a true “Jersey Girl” at heart (minus the big hair). She loves everything the Garden State has to offer: the boardwalk, Six Flags, proximity to NYC, and most of all, gas station attendants!

After graduating from George Mason University with a degree in Communications, Stephanie began her career in healthcare where she found her niche in Human Resources. In time she realized her passion for public service and decided to start another chapter of her life out west. Stephanie moved to Arizona where she survived the desert heat and earned her MPA from Arizona State University. An internship with the New Jersey Department of Human Services only solidified her desire for a career for helping others through education. Stephanie joins 50CAN to help provide support for advocates who shape education policy and provide a brighter future for all children.

I aspire to be like and why?:

I aspire to be like my parents. Here's why:

They both put 100% into everything they do. My parents’ passion for family, education and the future of the world their children live in has been truly inspirational. They value education and have instilled that belief in their children.

As a public school teacher, my mother has spent her entire career devoted to education. My father, after serving in Vietnam, served the community in law enforcement putting his life in danger in order to keep others safe. All this was done while raising two children in a loving and supportive home that provided the foundation for all that we have accomplished. I am inspired by my parents every day and owe it to them to put the tools, education and experiences they gave me to good use.

Why I love my job::

I love my job because it inspires me to think outside of the box. I face a new challenge every day, and get to use creativity and innovation to reach a solution. This job gives me the unique and treasured opportunity to multitask and work with a team that is not only helpful and hardworking, but a joy to be around. Utilizing my skills and knowledge is simply the icing on the cake!

My connection to public schools::

My mother is a public school teacher who has spent her entire career dedicated to the children she teaches. Throughout my childhood my parents instilled the importance of education in me. They saw the benefits a great public school education can provide. I spent all of my K-12 years in great public schools that I strongly believe provided the foundation for my accomplishments as an adult.

What I'm bad at::

Singing. Yet strangely enough I do it often — and loudly. I sing in the car with the windows rolled down, when I’m shopping, when I’m out to dinner. If you ask me a question, be prepared for me to sing the answer back to you. My specialty is 90’s boy band/pop classics —“Backstreet’s back, alright!” Any requests?

Visual representation of why 50CAN:

Education is the great equalizer and it can take you wherever you want to go. This plane is soaring high above the clouds and we don’t know where it is headed. With the right amount of fuel it can go anywhere it wants to go—no destination is unreachable. Isn’t that great? That’s how I feel about education. Every child should be able to soar high and go anywhere they want to go in life. A great public school education can be their wings.

Which Team:
Every child should be able to soar high and go anywhere they want to go in life. A great public school education can be their wings.
