50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now is a nonprofit advocacy organization that recruits and supports local leaders to build citizen movements in their states to ensure that every child has access to a great public school. 50CAN is led by President & Founder Marc Porter Magee and operates campaigns in Minnesota, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Jersey and North Carolina.

As a member of 50CAN’s Operations team, you will play a central role in helping to create a financial strategy, implement highly effective and sustainable financial policies and procedures and closely manage our $6 million budget to ensure the organization’s continued sustainability.
The Finance Director will report to 50CAN’s Senior Vice President of Operations.

- Undergraduate degree, preferably in finance or accounting
- At least three years work experience
Key responsibilities
Financial strategy and fiscal responsibilities
- Help create systems, structures and growth plan to ensure continued fiscal viability
- Manage and enhance the budget process
- Manage annual audit, including assisting with auditor requests and preparing supporting schedules
Oversight of financial systems
- Oversee our financial systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness of check requests, credit card reconciliations, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable
Grant reporting
- Ensure compliance with fiscal and programmatic reporting
- Prepare all materials, including budgets, for new and renewed grants as well as for periodic reports
- Work with Development team and programmatic departments to ensure that fiscal requirements for grants and contracts are identified, realized and monitored
- Track restricted grants, including allocating expenses, month-end quality control of grant budgets, and recognizing revenue
Financial Reporting
- Complete tax forms and reports
- Track and report lobbying expenses
- Develop financial metrics and reports for senior level management
- Create other financial reports as needed
