About the job
As part of 50CAN’s national campaigns team, the communications manager will help develop and execute online and offline communications strategies and materials for 50CAN’s state campaigns. This position reports to the Vice President of Campaigns.
About you
Key responsibilities
- Write about complex policies in jargon-free, enticing prose.
- Collaborate with state teams to develop and execute communications and online advocacy (including social media) strategies for multiple state campaigns.
- Manage relationships with external vendors who provide graphic design, website development, marketing and advocacy tools.
- Draft and copy edit communications materials, including press releases, website content, blog posts and e-appeals; lay out and send regular emails to supporters; develop and distribute content through social media channels; and implement press outreach and media relations strategies.
- Innovate in social media. Identify new platforms and ways to engage with supporters online via social media.
- Ensure all materials adhere to brand guidelines.
- Coordinate workflow of communications projects throughout the organization to ensure each project is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Key skills, abilities and experience:
- Minimum five years experience in marketing and communications.
- An understanding of the primacy of branding and its importance to building social movements.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Experience managing social media campaigns (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn).
- Experience gathering and interpreting marketing/communications analytics.
- Experience crafting effective advertising campaigns on various platforms: Google AdWords, social media and other paid media.
- Expert with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of website content management systems such as Drupal.
- Experience with Pardot, Vertical Response and/or other email delivery applications.
- Proficient in HTML.
- Experience working with journalists and editors.
- Creative thinker.
- Commitment to 50CAN’s mission.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Sense of humor, strong work ethic, “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude and willingness to do “whatever it takes.”
