About 50CAN

50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now is a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids regardless of their address. We help develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. We focus our work on starting earlier, expanding choices, aiming higher, rewarding talent and reaching everyone. 50CAN operates campaigns in Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island and is led by CEO & Founder Marc Porter Magee.

About the position

As a key part of Team Growth, the Growth Manager will oversee the design, funding, implementation and delivery of several key programs with direct oversight from the VP of Growth. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, self-directed, creative and a strong team player. Candidates must be comfortable managing multiple projects across teams, and must thrive in a fast-paced office. More specifically, this position will be responsible for implementing a new external leadership development program, which identifies and trains emerging advocacy leaders across the country. This position will also be responsible for exploring and supporting new revenue-generating opportunities. The Growth Manager reports directly to the VP of Growth. This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Key responsibilities

Program Management of External Leadership Development Program

  • Build and roll out the pilot year program for 50CAN’s new leadership development program for emerging part-time education advocates across the country
  • Explore best practices in adult learning and training from other sectors and industries, and adapt them for innovative use at 50CAN
  • Work with external strategic partners to manage recruitment and marketing for the program
  • Manage all grant activity for the program, including metrics tracking and proposal/report drafting
  • Work with program advocates to build and deploy groundbreaking online crowdfunding platforms
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to develop the program website

Business Development

  • Provide business development and consultancy research and support as we explore new market opportunities and partnerships
  • Repackage 50CANs advocacy expertise as external leadership development programs
  • Coordinate and project manage future external leadership development opportunities

New Initiatives Development

  • As the 50CAN network grows, provide support and thought partnership to the VP of Growth and President around emerging opportunities, models and mechanisms for ensuring 50CAN is responsive to market trends and leveraging our best assets
  • Provide expertise and deep understanding of the education advocacy landscape nationwide, and tap into this knowledge to provide strategic insight into the development of new initiatives and fundraising opportunities

Key skills, abilities and experience:

  • Minimum five years experience in education, public policy, advocacy or related field
  • A strong track record of being able to working across multiple teams and issues in a complex environment
  • Business experience/acumen strongly desired
  • Experience with adult learning strongly desired
  • Website content management preferred
  • A strong sense of service and willingness to help others succeed
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, and self-motivated
  • Creative thinker
  • Commitment to 50CAN’s mission an educational equity
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Sense of humor, strong work ethic, “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude and willingness to do “whatever it takes”
