50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now is a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids regardless of their address. 50CAN operates campaigns in Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
About the Job
As a member of 50CAN’s Operations team, you will play a central role in enhancing our financial systems and supporting our financial strategy to ensure the continued sustainability of the organization and its $6 million budget. The Finance Manager will report to 50CAN’s Chief Operating Officer.

- Nonprofit accounting experience

- Undergraduate degree, preferably in finance or accounting
- At least two years of work experience
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Reporting
- Ensure compliance with fiscal and programmatic reporting
- Prepare all materials, including budgets, for new and renewed grants as well as for periodic reports
- Track and monitor restricted grants, including allocating expenses, month-end quality control of grant budgets and recognizing revenue
Fiscal Responsibilities
- Help create systems and structures to ensure continued fiscal viability
- Support the budget process
- Support the annual audit, including assisting with auditor requests and preparing supporting schedules
Oversight of Financial Systems
- Oversee our financial systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness of check requests, credit card reconciliations, accounts receivable and accounts payable
- File all financial paperwork
Financial Reporting
- Complete tax forms and reports
- Track and report lobbying expenses
- Develop financial metrics and reports for senior level management
- Create other financial reports as needed
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. This position is based in either Washington D.C. or New York City, but Washington D.C. is strongly preferred. 50CAN offers a comprehensive benefits package.
